Mistley is a wonderful village, with its treasures of architecture, history, scenic views, industry, arts, small business, rugby, cricket and community. So let’s celebrate it.
On Saturday 29th June 2024 10am-4pm, local organisations in Mistley will be opening their doors as part of a trail, food, and history event. There will be competitions, collector cards, prizes, and much more. Keep scrolling to find out who’s on the trail and what they are doing.

Explore high quality work from local artists and designers: James Dodds books and cards, Penny Bhadresa and Daphne Sandham. Paintings by Kit Leese and Michael Checketts, members of Suffolk Craft Society, ceramics, printed textiles, painted wood, wildlife sculptures, pewter and paper jewellery. Books on coastal area and its boats by Robert Simper, Peter Caton books on local walks. There are a wide range of prices. The gallery will be open all day with a display of historical photographs and recent events in the Showroom as you enter the building.

Hear about the journey from field to fork and the malting process. Find out what the delicious smells that fill the village really are.
Learn about the history of the Hall (historically known as Mistley Institute) which was built in 1911. Take a look at Arts and Crafts. Enjoy some light refreshments (drinks and cake). Toilets and parking (for the Hall and Mistley Towers) also available.
Soak in the sport that’s been in Mistley for over 200 years. Matches will be taking place at midday (weather permitting). Enjoy a drink from the bar, open from 1pm.
Visit the family-run business which is open from 11am-3:30pm. Enjoy traditional fish and chips. Vegetarian options also available.
Have a go at testing your skill set at the bowls games station. Look through old photo albums and discover the history of the Club. Grab a bacon roll and wash it down with tea or coffee which is being served throughout the day.
Learn about the history of this iconic landmark. A rare chance to go inside the Towers.
Discover what they were for, find out who built them, why there is a gap in the middle and why the architecture is of national importance.
The perfect start and finish spot. Indulge in a bacon sandwich and grab a drink from the bar (open from 11am) to fuel for the trail / celebrate your trail achievements. Join in the activities taking place at the club too.
Don’t forget to hand in your completed collector card here to be entered into the prize draw.
It wouldn’t be Mistley without this magnificent 800 year old oak tree Its roots are firmly planted in history. Head to the bonus spot on the trail, get your cameras at the ready and take a selfie with the famous English oak.
Relax in the garden to chilled Ibiza-style music. Order food and drink from Heidi the van. Browse for a new plant at Bleaf plants. Take creative rest during or after the walk by purchasing a pebble painting kit from the van. Simply paint your pebble with your favourite garden creature and hand it back to Sian. The best pebble will win a prize and all the pebbles will be on display in the garden!
Please note that the salon will still be operating on the day. No under 11s or dogs allowed in the salon, but all are welcome in the garden.
Head to the perfect pit stop on your journey to discovering more about magical Mistley. Adults can enjoy a delicious cup of Mistley Quay Coffee (Tea at the Quay’s very own blend), whilst children enjoy some amazing cake as they complete the Mysteries of Tea at the Quay word search. As you’ll see the building is steeped in history and the cafe are excited to help you find out more about it.
St Mary’s Church was once the centre of Mistley and where Matthew Hopkins went regularly to service, led by the Rev Thomas Witham. How did he end up living here at the parsonage and being buried in the churchyard after leading the notorious Witch-hunts of 1645?
Back again by popular demand, Wooster’s will be selling a spectacular range of baked treats including their famous malt loaves. Head to EDME site where they will be stationed and showcasing exactly what EDME ingredients help to produce.
